Our private collection focuses on the acquisition, research, and exhibition of historical documents and relics related to the Southern Theater of the Revolutionary War.
Some of our highlights include a document signed by Patrick Ferguson, the leader of the British forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain, purchasing land known for slave insurrections in Tobago in 1773. His signature is considered the rarest among British and American officers of the Revolution and the present document is the first of its kind to be offered for sale in over 100 years.
In addition, we have a letter from George Washington's spymaster, Benjamin Tallmadge, notifying the Continental Congress of the American victory at the Battle of Kings Mountain. It is one of two letters in private hands that provide intelligence on the aftermath of the battle.
We also have a first edition of Banastre Tarleton's History of the Campaigns of 1780 and 1781, in the Southern Provinces of North America. It is considered the most important resource on the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution and it contains his personal eyewitness account of the Battles of Waxhaws and Cowpens.
